WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN MASON JUNE 16, 1920 - NOVEMBER 24, 2001 Peacefully, on Saturday, November 24, 2001, Bill passed away at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg, surrounded by his loving family. Bill will forever be cherished and remembered by his loving wife of 53 years, Mildred (nee Fisher), with whom he shared a marriage truly made in Heaven. He also leaves to mourn his passing his children and grandchildren, Douglas and Judy Mason, Bryan, Vicki, Paula of Pickering, ON; George and Janis Mason, Gordon, Faye, Erin of Kelowna,BC; William Jr. and Cyndi Mason, Sara, Jenna, Kevin of Independence, MO; Brenda and Chris Lawson, Tamara, Sean, Keir of Stonewall, MB; Pam and Tim Shay of Winnipeg, MB. Also surviving Bill are his sisters, Laura and Anne. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Dora Mason, and his sister Florence. Bill grew up in the North End of Winnipeg. After attending school, he spent several years overseas serving in the army during the Second World War. Upon his return, he began his long career with Canada Cement Lafarge. After taking business classes at night he was promoted to Office Manager, a position in which he remained until his retirement in 1981. Bill and Millie spent many wonderful years at their cottage, a popular gathering place for their family, friends, and pets (of which there were many!) Bills favourite pastimes were golfing, teaching card games to his grandchildren, and watching the kids in his "sparkling" swimming pool. Bill also enjoyed many happy winters in Arizona with Millie, where they continued their active lifestyle of golfing, swimming, biking, and bowling. Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family wishes to thank Dr. Russ Albak, Bills physician and friend, for his many years of expert care, compassion, and honesty. In addition, we thank the staff of the Grace Hospital for their excellent care of Bill during his short stay. A visitation is being held on Tuesday, November 27 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 28 at 1:00 p.m., also at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Following the interment in Oak Bluff Cemetery, a reception will be held in the Chapel Reception Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bills memory to CancerCare Manitoa, ON109 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg MB R3E 0V9, or to the Humane Society, 5 Kent Road, Winnipeg MB R2L 1X3, as tokens of remembrance.
