Offer Condolences or MemoryMADELINE (JO) JOYCE SYLVESTER 1919 - 2002 (nee McCANN) Peacefully with her family by her side, on January 18, 2002, at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB. Madeline is lovingly remembered by her husband Quentin; one son Darryl (Nola) Sylvester of Carman and their children, Corby (Kerri) Sylvester, and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ty, Tara Sylvester (Doug Skibo), Ian (Shannon) Sylvester; and by one daughter Kim (Ron) Janzen of Carman. She was predeceased by her sister Eleanor Routley and her mother Sarah McCann. Mom was born in Hamiota May 22, 1919 and raised in Virden and Carman. On September 18, 1943 she married Quentin and they moved to Dauphin where he was posted with the RCAF. They returned to Carman in 1945 where together they raised their family. Mom still found time to work outside the home at various clerical positions, especially enjoying her job at the Land Titles Office. Together in 1960 they opened Syls Drive Inn and the Buzz Burger was created. She was also quite active in the community, being involved with the 4H, figure skating, speed swimming, Carman Band, Carman Curling Club and Kinettes. In their retirement, they wintered in Victoria and summered at Platfords Landing in Clearwater Bay. Mom will be sadly missed by her many friends and her loving family. Funeral service will be held from the Carman United Church in Carman, MB, on Tuesday, January 22, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644 Carman, MB, R0G 0J0.
