ROSE SZUCS Peacefully on February 22, 2002, Rose Szucs left this earth to a more tranquil place. Left to cherish Roses memory are son Joseph (Leslie) of Clearwater, FL; daughter Shirley (Laszlo) Pothe of Winnipeg; youngest son, Robert of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Meredith (Dean), David and Joey (fiance Suzanne) cousin Helen Urban and many other relatives. Rose is survived by brothers, Alex (Amelia) from Yorkton, SK, Frank (Annie) from Abbotsford, BC, and sister Emma Horvath from Winnipeg. Rose was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Sophie; brothers, Louie, Leslie, Steve and Charlie; sisters, Hilda, Lilly, Helen and Irma. Rose was born on June 16, 1914 in Saskatchewan. She was raised by her parents and helped on the family farm. In 1944, she married Joseph Szucs and moved to Winnipeg. Rose never worked outside the home but looked after three young children and operated a boarding house. In 1967, when her husband died, she was left with three teenagers to raise on her own. She raised her children with love and devotion. She was always there for them through all the tough times. Rose enjoyed cooking, cross stitching, playing cards and bingo. She also enjoyed singing and playing games. Rose lived with son Robert with their family bird, Jimmy up until 1994 when he was transferred to Vancouver. She then moved in with her daughter Shirley and family. Joey bonded with his Granny while she was living with them. There were many good times together (well miss the card games with Granny). She also became good friends with Bambi our family cat. In 1998, Rose become ill and needed specialized care. She moved into Deer Lodge Centre where she could be better looked after. She enjoyed her life till the end, "Dont Worry, Be Happy" was her motto. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the kindness and love that staff at Deer Lodge (3 South and 7 West) gave to Rose. Rose will be dearly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. Her smile and love will always be remembered and will live strong forever within our hearts. Rose lived long, laughed often and loved much. God bless, you will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to in the memory of Rose Szucs to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3J 0L3. Funeral service will be held Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
