EDITH A. THYEN (nee KAATZ) Peacefully, with her family at her side, Edie passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Beausejour, MB on September 24, 1923, Edie moved to Winnipeg in 1941 where she worked and met her future husband Lorne. Mom was the consummate loving and caring woman and devoted her entire life to her family. Throughout her life she enjoyed family times together, vacationing at the lake when her children were young and later travelling with her husband and family. Her granddaughters were very special to her and she loved them as much as they loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband Lorne; her children, Barbara of Toronto, ON, Ron of Brisbane, Australia and Nancy and son-in-law Allan Walkey of Winnipeg; and her adoring granddaughters, Melissa and Emily Walkey. She was predeceased by her parents, Herman and Louisa Kaatz; her brothers, Leo and George; brother-in-law Al White and sister-in-law Mitzie. She will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Dot White and Ruth (Don) Murray; her brothers, Art (Chris), Gord (Ruth), Bob, Harold (Marlene), Bill (Joyce) sister-in-law Ellen; and brother and sisters-in-law, John (Ethel) Thyen; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff of 7A South, CCU and especially Palliative Care of St. Boniface General Hospital for their compassion and excellent care of our mother. A special thanks to Dr. John Bracken. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 3 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Flowers gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations in her memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Mom, your constant caring and generosity toward your children and granddaughters is an inspiration for us to follow. We will always love you. Green Acres Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 222-3241.
