KAROLINE (JURKOWSKI) SWIRHUN Karoline (Jurkowski) Swirhun passed away peacefully, with her three children at her bedside, on Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at Pinecrest Home for the Aged, Kenora, ON. She was born in Transcona, MB on December 17, 1917 to Joseph and Kazmira Jurkowski and was the oldest of their seven children. Karoline spent her early years in Transcona and relocated to Kenora in 1945 to work for Canadian Pacific Airlines. Here she met Stephen Swirhun and they married in September of 1947 at Holy Ghost Church in Winnipeg. Karoline is survived by her children, Christine (Barry) Hartry, Emo, ON, Louise Blake, Thunder Bay, ON, Stanley (Lesley), Boulder, CO; grandchildren, Sean Blake, Ottawa, ON, Kaitlin Blake, Wolfville, NS, Dale Swirhun, Claremont, CA, James and Paul Swirhun, Boulder, CO; brothers, Louis (Sophie) Jurkowski, Winnipeg, MB, Stanley (Elsie) Jurkowski, Transcona, MB; sisters, Verna (Ray) McMillan, Garden Grove, CA, Cecilia (Joe) McMillan, Victoria, BC, Louise (Marcel) Daeninck, St. Boniface, MB; sister-in-law Lorraine Jurkowski, Transcona, MB and many nieces and nephews. Karoline was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Stephen in 1997 and brother Edward in 2002. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Karoline Swirhun will be held on Monday, March 17 at Notre Dame du Portage Church, Kenora, ON at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Al Campeau officiating. Vigil prayers will be held in the church on Sunday, March 16 at 7:00 p.m. The family graciously declines floral tributes, and favours instead donations to The Canadian Hearing Society, The Arthritis Society, or a charity of your choice. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Centre entrusted with arrangements.
