Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN LOUISE THOMPSON (nee SHACKELL) On Tuesday, Oct-ober 21, 2003, at the Douglas Campbell Lodge, Kathleen Louise Thompson passed away with her children at her side. Kaye was born on September 27, 1916, daughter of Douglas and Laura Shackell at Shaunovan, SK, where she was raised and received her education. The family moved to Portage la Prairie in 1931 - here she and her mother operated a wool shop for several years. On December 27, 1939, she married Erwin Thompson and they resided in Portage la Prairie. Kaye was a faithful member of the St. Marys la Prairie Anglican Church and for a period was the choral director of the St. Marys la Prairie Youth Choir. She trained as a singer and pianist, winning many musical awards at various music festivals. She also sang with her fathers dance band for several years and was a member of his "Sweet and Low Singers" choir. Kaye was a member of the O.O.R.P. Lodge No. 66 Portage and served as the Honourable Royal Lady and was presented her Royal Purple lifetime membership. Kaye also was a member of the Altar Guild of St. Marys Anglican Church and a member of the Portage Hospital Volunteer Guild. Special fun filled times were spent for many years at Delta with her family and friends. Predeceased by her husband Erwin; and grandson Dennis Thompson, she leaves to mourn her passing her son Dennis and his wife Kathy; daughter Linda Blake; grandchildren, Douglas (Jill) Thompson, all of Portage la Prairie, Richard Blake (Christine) of Darcy Birken, BC, and Robert (Georgette) Metcalfe of Darcy Birken; as well as seven great-grandchildren, Adam and Charlotte Thompson of Portage la Prairie, Sadie and Bailey Del Bigio (Blake), Clara Del Bigio of Winnipeg and Harrison and Wyatt Metcalfe of Darcy Birken. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 3:30 p.m. at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel with The Rev. Norman Collier officiating. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 21 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 1T8, or the Douglas Campbell Lodge, 150 9th Street SE, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3T6.
