LEON SZELAG January 1, 1922 - January 27, 2005 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Leon Szelag, devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Dad will be deeply missed by his loving wife Mary of 53 years; daughters, Dianne and husband Bruce Henderson, Krystyna and husband Craig Parker, Alexandra and husband Keith Bruch; grandchildren, Scott, Sarah, Leon and Ryan. Leon was born in Poland and survived the Second World War as an infantryman in the Polish army to come to Canada where he met Mary (Tomala) and started a long life together. He worked very hard throughout his life and in his free time loved to fish and garden. Dad had the best tomatoes in all of Winnipeg growing them from his own seeds. He belonged to the Royal Canadian Legion 246. Papa was always there for his children and grandchildren. He fought against all odds four years ago to come back to us and we are grateful we had him for those four years. He was courageous in his last fight but time had taken its toll and it was time to be at peace. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 31 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Ghost Cemetery. The family wishes to thank Dr. Zaki for never giving up, the nurses of the 4th floor, Unit 5 at Seven Oaks Hospital, the staff in the ICU at Seven Oaks Hospital and a great big hug to Nurse Wendy for making the best out of a difficult situation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Leon's memory to Holy Ghost Church or Seven Oaks Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice. We will always love you Dad and keep you in our hearts forever. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
