NORMAN STANLEY MARKUS SEPTEMBER 11, 1923 - APRIL 6, 2005 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Norman passed away at the age of 81. Norman leaves to mourn his passing sons, Ron of St. Anne's, Norman (Terry) of Winnipeg, Richard (Toni) of Duncan, BC, Jim (Maureen) of Oakbank, Stephen of Beausejour; daughter Theresa (Louis) Gmiterek of Beausejour; sisters, Margaret, Anne and Vera; grandchildren, Ron, Kelly, Sean, Kerris, Kristina, Kimberly, Ryan, Cory, Shane, Theresa and Don; great-grandchildren, Nadia, Kayla, Taylor, Devon and Logan. Norman was predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy; brothers, Andy, George, Mickey, Frank and Sam; daughter-in-law Bev; and great-granddaughter Sarah. Norman was a member of the Winnipeg Fire department retiring as Captain in 1976 after 30 years of service. He was also trained as butcher and worked part time for many years at Frontier Meats. Norman enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their summer home in Beausejour which later became their permanent residence. Norman's interests included gardening, cooking/smoking fish and painting for which he was always willing to lend a hand. Special thanks to Home Care Resource Coordinator Debra Kuffner, Case Coordinator Kin Chu and Home Care Workers, Eve, Paula, Sharon, Susan and Treasure for always giving that little extra for dad. Extra special thanks to Dad's special friend Frieda for always being there for him. Thank you to Dr. Campbell and Beausejour Hospital Staff for there kindness and compassion during Dad's final hours. As per Norman's wishes, a private family service with cremation to follow will take place. Sobering Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Fire Fighter's Burn Fund, 303 - 83 Garry St., WInnipeg, MB R3C 4J9. I see a smile upon his face as Dad moves onto another place, and watches Mom standing there, as Heaven's wind blows through her hair. Now two young souls walk hand in hand in a place where there's no mortal man, where spirits know no sorrow, no pain, and where our Dad knows Mom again. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Although we are saddened with Grampa's passing, we remember that life is a journey and that he is with family in heaven. As I reflect back on the time that I have known him, I recall a man that was proud of his family. He welcomed me into his family with open arms. Grandpa had a heart of gold, and often after a visit one would leave with a full stomach. It has been an honor getting to know you Norman and thank you for the loving family that has become a part of mine. Rest in Peace Chris - Posted by: Chris & Kerris Ritchie (Family) on: Apr 08, 2005
