MICHAEL SZALAWILO Michael Szalawilo passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family early Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 84. He was born on July 29, 1920 in the town of Osomla in Ukraine. Michael met and married his wife in Germany. They later moved to South America and finally immigrated to Canada in October 1958. They have two daughters. Michael is survived by his wife Janina of 57 years, daughters, Jean Klimchak and Julie (Daniel) Mazzon; grandchildren, Sonya (Mark) Galarnyk, Donna (Darren) Nowosad, Peter Klimchak, Paula Klimchak, Stephanie Mazzon and Michael Mazzon; sister-in-law Maria (Frank) Mazur; nephew Jan; and many relatives in Ukraine. He was predeceased by his son-in-law Michael Klimchak in 2002. Dad loved to tinker around the home, especially in his garden. But the brightest sparkle came from his eyes, along with a bright smile when he was with his grandchildren. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 26 (tonight) at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 400 Day St. Divine liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 27 also at the church with Rev. M. Krochak officiating. Interment to follow in Green Acres Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Mazzon, Peter Klimchak, Mark Galarnyk, Darren Nowosad, Rick Bilos and Joseph Dutchak. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Michael's memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association - Asthma Programs, or St. Michael's Cultural Centre.
