EFFIE TATARYN (STEPANIUK) In the presence of her beloved family and friends, Effie Tataryn passed away on Friday, July 22, 2005 at the age of 66 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Effie will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband Louis Tataryn (of 43 years); sons, Philip Tataryn (Judith), Dr. Brian Tataryn (Kristin); daughter Sandra Boutcher (Chris); grandchildren, Laura, Emily, Alexander, Geoffrey and Sarah. She will be sadly missed by her brothers and sisters-in law, nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends. Effie was predeceased by her daughter Sharon and son-in-law Earl Firth; her parents, Stephen and Katherine Stepaniuk and her brother Roman. Effie was born on September 26, 1938 and raised in Rosa, MB. After graduation from Teachers' College in Winnipeg in 1957, she taught at North Star School in Arnaud and Baskerville School. On May 5, 1962, she married Louis and moved to Edmonton, AB where she continued teaching until the arrival of her children. In 1976, Effie and Louis returned to Winnipeg and she became a substitute teacher for the River East School Division. For the last twenty years she was a dedicated employee of Sears Canada. Throughout her life, Effie was a devoted wife, mother and nana who poured her heart and soul into her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she lovingly offered guidance and advice on parenting. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and needlepoint. As a true Ukrainian woman, she always had food in the fridge, food in the freezer and food on the table. This wonderful woman had such a kind heart; she gave freely of her time, love, compassion, understanding, patience. In her last days she fought valiantly against cancer, demonstrating the strength of character that touched the lives of so many around her. Our family would like to thank Dr. Maksymiuk, the nurses at CancerCare, and the doctors and nurses at Concordia Hospital Emergency and ICU for their compassionate care of Mom and for their kindness and support to our family before her passing. We would also like to express our gratitude to Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk for his spiritual guidance, compassion and support for Mom and for our family. Neither the tragic loss of her daughter nor her battle with cancer weakened her faith. Prayers will be said on Tuesday, July 26 at 7:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg, MB. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 27 at 10:00 am at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, at Munroe and Watt, Winnipeg, with Rev. Fr. Darren Kawiuk officiating. Interment will take place at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Rosa following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Effie's memory to Cancer Care Manitoba. Mom, you were a gift from God, a mother and wife in every sense. Now, as our guardian angel, you will continue to embrace us. In this we find peace. We will always be grateful for everything you did for us, and will always cherish every moment we shared with you. VICHNAYA PAM'YAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044

  • Mom, it has been 8 years and I miss you dearly. Your granddaughters grow more beautiful everyday and are so curious about their nanna T. I tell them stories about how wonderful you were, how you loved to cook, entertain and touch the life of everyone who had the blessing of knowing you. I know you are at peace, and with your beautiful daughter Sharon and my beloved brother Earl. I wish you were here. You will never be forgotten and your spirit continues to enrich the lives of us all. God bless you. I wish we had had more time with you. - Posted by: Kristin Tataryn (Mother in law) on: Aug 22, 2013
