WALENTYNA (WALJA) SZCZURKO (nee REZNIKOVA) 1927 - 2005 It is with profound sadness that the family of Walentyna Walja Szczurko announces her passing after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. On Tuesday, August 23, 2005, at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Walja, (nee Reznikova) went to her eternal rest. Her beauty, strength, courage, faith, kindness and generosity will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered. She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters, Christine and Willem Sauer of Stony Plain, AB and their four children, Margriet and Geoffrey Tan, Kirsten Sauer, Michael Sauer and Vincent Sauer; and daughter Irene and John Olfert of Winnipeg and their two children, Justin Olfert and Rhea and Diego Beltran; three great-grandchildren, Naomi Sauer, Zoe Tees, Isaac Tan; one brother-in-law Stan and Mildred Szczurko. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Mike Szczurko in 2004. Prayers will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Viewing at the church prior to the service. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Ghost Parish, 341 Selkirk Ave., Winnipeg with Fr. Miroslaw Szynal officiating. Interment will follow at the Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walja's memory to Cancer Treatment Research, 675 McDermot Ave., Room ON109 Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The family extends its appreciation to the kind nursing staff of 5B and Dr. Wong of the St. Boniface Hospital for the care given to Walja during her illness.
